The Pitt Building is steeped in history, the original building itself having been completed in 1833. It is now one of Cambridge’s premier conference venues and has been for the past 20 years.
There were two projects Optrys were asked to help out on. The first was the first floor, three rooms of which required refurbishment. The second was the ground floor, a large open space with modular furniture, which required all the chairs to be updated, the originals of which were supplied by Optrys some 20 years ago.
The Pitt Building is a high-end meeting and conference room facility. The market has changed a lot in 20 years and the management of the centre was very much aware of the highly competitive meeting room and conference spaces in the heart of Cambridge. It was imperative to get ahead of the game, providing high quality facilities, different from the competition, but also that were in keeping with the history of the building.
The feedback from the client has been highly positive. They wanted a new look and feel for the space and they have achieved that. The space has been taken to a different level, perfect to cater to a high-end audience creating a conference centre of distinction.
We worked with the Pitt Buildings’ in-house team to try and capture what their clients are looking for in meeting rooms and conference facilities. This included everything from the look and feel, along with the functionality from a technology point of view.
The ground floor chairs we provided are of a much higher quality, more comfortable and in keeping with the overall design.
The first floor rooms now have bold colours and rich tones; they are warm and inviting and more in keeping with both the modern market as well as the history of the building. The technology now embedded in the rooms means zero cables, efficient power and high speed data access.
