Cambridge GaN Devices

Case study

Cambridge GaN Devices

Based in Cambridge, in the St John’s Innovation Park, Cambridge GaN Devices (CGD) is a semiconductor company that develops a range of energy-efficient GaN-based power devices to make greener electronics possible.

The Challenge

Due to rapid growth, CGD were looking to move into the Jeffreys building on the Innovation Park. Optrys had already successfully refurbished that building three times for other companies, so the previous clients and Savills–the agents, put CGD in touch with us to help them with the move.

Their requirements included having a good-sized lab and office space; a location near good transport links; a decent amount of outdoor space and greater separation from sharing with another of their founder’s companies. It also needed to match their unique identity and to represent their values.

The Solution

Savills, the agents, provided the opportunity for CGD to view the office of our client Springboard before it was marketed. We had already refurbished the Jeffreys building three times for different clients so our extensive knowledge of the building stood us in good stead. The building matched CGDs requirements perfectly, being exactly what they needed to make a great space for their team.

We managed the full refurbishment project for CGD. This included re-designing the space, contractor management and purchasing all required furniture for both the office and lab space.

Communication is crucial to a successful project and we worked well with their team, even challenging their decisions to make sure they came to the best conclusions for them and their specific requirements.

The Outcome

CGD now have a space that can cater to their continued growth, more than double the size of the previous facilities. It has been designed to show their unique identity and showcase their values.

It is now a space to connect. Even more so after having to work from home during covid; a place to be proud of where their staff want to come.

Once their board members and investors saw the new building at the official opening, the feedback they gave CGD was exceptional.

CGD are so happy with the space Optrys helped to create for our 1st office and lab space. It is so great to see the team settled in their new space, which will also allow the opportunity for growth and development of the organisation. Having worked on many other projects in the past with other suppliers, I cannot thank the Optrys team enough, for their knowledge, creativity and support throughout the project.
